About 1.8 billion Muslims celebrate Eid amid a pandemic that has so far infected more than 16 million people. Muslims worldwide will celebrate Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, amid a coronavirus pandemic that has so far infected more than 16 million people worldwide. Like the Islamic holiday Eid al-Fitr in May that followed the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are being encouraged to take precautions and alter the way they observe as a result of COVID-19 between July 30 and August 4. In normal circumstances, Eid day starts by gathering at a mosque in the morning to take part in prayers. The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has published recommendations on its website promoting outdoor prayers and if not, for multiple staggered prayer times indoors. Sindh has imposed a ban on dumping animal waste near the province's airports, a notification said. The move has been made in a bid to avoid airplane accidents caused due to birds attracted to the waste. The province has imposed Section 144 in the areas surrounding airports which will remain in effect for a month. It comes following one of the deadliest crashes in Pakistan's aviation history, after which several quarters demanded the aviation department to ramp up efforts and avoid such tragedies. On May 22, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-8303 had crashed in a residential area near Karachi's Jinnah International Airport, leaving 97 dead.  Earlier, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah had directed authorities to allocate specific places where animals can be sacrificed. "If animals are slaughtered in streets everywhere, this will lead to the spread of diseases," he said, directing authorities to establish designated places at the Union Council level.

The Power Division on Saturday announced that there would be no load shedding and load management during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays across the country. The spokesperson of the power division said a monitoring center has been set up in Islamabad to ensure the timely supply of electricity. All power distribution companies have been informed of the government’s decision and directed to provide data of power demand and supply situation, the spokesperson said. Police confirmed at least seven were injured when the blast took place in the bazaar.  Two are said to be in critical condition among the injured. Rescue efforts are underway and the injured are being shifted to a hospital. The blast took place near a car after which the vehicle engulfed in flame, while a motorcycle also caught on fire. Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Alyani condemned the attack, saying that “the agenda of anti-state elements will not be allowed to succeed”.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday issued its detailed verdict on a bail petition filed by PML-N leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and Khawaja Salman Rafique in the Paragon Housing Society case, highlighting severe lapses in due process and legal procedure by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). In the detailed, 87-page ruling, penned by Justice Maqbool Baqar, the court highlighted the definition and purpose of bail as well as due process in criminal cases. At least two people including a policeman lost their lives as heavy rain accompanied by strong winds battered Karachi on Friday, leaving major thoroughfares flooded and causing widespread power outages even as residents heaved a sigh of relief from the day's intense heat. Among other damages caused to the city's infrastructure by the second rain spell of the season, a wall of the Bandookwala building located on the city's I.I. Chundrigar Road collapsed, badly damaging a number of cars parked nearby, according to police.  A policeman, identified as 30-year-old Arshad Ali, who was posted with the Rapid Response Force of police, lost his life when he suffered an electric shock while performing duty at Bahar-i-Madina Water Pump in Ibrahim Hyderi. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The men's T20 World Cup due to take place in Australia from October 18 has been postponed until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the International Cricket Council announced on Monday. Officials said they now hoped to stage the tournament from October to November 2021. There will also be a T20 World Cup in 2022, with the 2023 50-over World Cup in India pushed back until October-November of that year. “We have undertaken a comprehensive and complex contingency planning exercise and through this process, our number one priority has been to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in the sport,” said ICC chief executive Manu Sawhney.
